Summary

Gizmo is designed to keep your data on your device.

  • Speech-to-text, the language model, embeddings, the wake-word detector, and text-to-speech all run locally on your phone. They do not send your voice, text, or local model inputs to Aizip servers or AI inference servers.
  • Aizip does not collect or receive analytics, crash reports, advertising identifiers, account IDs, or device fingerprints from the app.
  • The on-device model files are downloaded once via Google Play Asset Delivery on first launch. After that, Gizmo only makes outgoing network requests when you use a feature that needs them — finding nearby places, getting directions, or running a web search. Those requests carry your query and (when relevant) your location, and only to the third party that performs the lookup.
  • Third-party services that receive a request (Google, SerpAPI) apply their own privacy policies and may log standard request metadata such as IP address, timestamp, and query content. Gizmo does not include an account ID, advertising ID, device identifier, or persistent user identifier from Gizmo in those requests.
  • The app does not back up your data to Google Drive or transfer it to a new device. If you uninstall the app, locally stored Gizmo data is deleted from your device.

You can read the full details below.

1. Information processed on your device only

These categories of data stay on your phone. They are stored in the app's private storage areas (filesDir, app-private SQLite databases, and SharedPreferences), are excluded from Android Auto Backup and from device-to-device transfer, and are never transmitted to us or to any third party.

  • Conversation history. Your chat messages and the assistant's responses, stored locally so you can return to past conversations.
  • Memories. Facts you ask Gizmo to remember (for example, "remember that I prefer dark mode").
  • Imported files (PDF / text). Files you add to Gizmo for question-answering are indexed locally for retrieval; their contents do not leave your device.
  • Notes. Notes you write inside Gizmo.
  • Calendar events. When you grant calendar permission, Gizmo reads your events directly from the Android calendar provider when you ask about them, and may create, edit, or delete events when you ask it to. It does not copy those events into its own storage.
  • Voice audio. When the optional wake-word listener is enabled, the microphone is continuously sampled to detect "Hey Gizmo." Audio that does not match the wake word is discarded immediately and never stored. When you tap the microphone button or trigger the wake word, audio is processed locally for speech recognition and discarded once the transcript is produced. No audio is saved to disk.
  • Location. When the app needs your location to answer a place- or directions-related question, it requests it from Android's fused location provider, holds it in memory only, and uses it only for the active request. Whether the coordinates are approximate or precise depends on the Android location permission you have granted.

2. Features that send data off-device

The following features make network requests to third-party services. They are only triggered when you initiate the corresponding action.

FeatureServiceWhat we sendWhy
Find nearby places, restaurants, etc. Google Places API (places.googleapis.com) Your query text (e.g. "coffee nearby") and your location coordinates (approximate or precise, depending on your Android permission setting) To return a list of nearby places
Place details Google Places API A place identifier or place name To return hours, ratings, address
Directions Google Maps Directions API (maps.googleapis.com) Origin (coordinates or "current location"), destination (text or place identifier) To return turn-by-turn directions
Web search SerpAPI (serpapi.com) Your search query To return web search results

These requests do not include an account ID, advertising ID, device identifier, or persistent user identifier from Gizmo. The third-party services that receive the request apply their own privacy policies and may log standard request metadata such as IP address, timestamp, request headers, and the query content:

  • Google Places / Maps: https://policies.google.com/privacy
  • SerpAPI: https://serpapi.com/legal/privacy-policy

All requests are made over HTTPS. The app forbids cleartext traffic on release builds.

3. What Aizip does not collect or receive

  • We do not collect or receive analytics from the app. The app has no Firebase Analytics, no third-party analytics SDK, and no usage telemetry.
  • We do not collect or receive crash reports.
  • We do not use any advertising identifier (no GAID/IDFA), and the app does not display advertising.
  • We do not access your contacts, photos, SMS, call logs, microphone outside of voice-input or wake-word use, location outside of an active places/directions query, or any account on your device.
  • We do not sell your data, share it with data brokers, or transfer it to third parties beyond what is necessary to fulfill the request you initiated (see Section 2).

4. Permissions

The Android permissions Gizmo requests and what they are used for:

  • Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO) — used so the app can listen for the "Hey Gizmo" wake word and so you can dictate messages. Audio is processed on-device and never stored or transmitted. Voice features cannot function without this permission; if you deny it, the app will prompt you to grant it.
  • Calendar (READ_CALENDAR, WRITE_CALENDAR) — optional, used when you ask Gizmo about or to update your calendar. Events are read live from the calendar provider; created, edited, or deleted in the calendar provider when you ask; and are not copied into the app.
  • Location (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION, ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION) — optional, used when you ask Gizmo a question that requires your location (e.g. "find coffee nearby"). Whether the coordinates are approximate or precise depends on which option you grant in the Android permission prompt.
  • Internet (INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE) — used to make the external requests listed in Section 2 and to download the on-device model files via Google Play Asset Delivery on first launch.

You can revoke any of these in Android Settings at any time.

5. Storage, retention, and deletion

All app data is stored in your phone's app-private storage. It is explicitly excluded from Android Auto Backup (Google Drive) and from device-to-device transfer. If you uninstall the app, all chat history, memories, imported files, and notes are permanently deleted from your device. There is no cloud copy.

You can clear data piece by piece inside the app (delete a conversation from the sidebar; remove a memory or note from its respective screen), or all at once via Android's "App info → Storage → Clear data."

6. Children

Gizmo is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

7. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a way that materially affects how data is handled, we will update the "Last updated" date above and surface a notice in the app before the change takes effect.

8. Contact

If you have questions about this policy or about your data, please contact us at privacy@aizip.ai.
